Readers & Writers Workshop:
We are currently studying the 'All About Books' and 'Avid Readers' units of study.
Reading/ELA:
Students will receive directed instruction on letters and letter sounds, as well as sight words. Working on correct letter/sound match, correct letter formation, CVC words, and much more! Each week the homework will have our sight words for the week! Continue to practice so your child can more their clip on the data wall in the classroom!
ELACCKRF1a,b,c,d* Demonstrate understanding of the organization and basic features of print.
ELACCKRF3a,b,c,d* Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
ELACCKRL5 (fiction/nonfiction) Recognize common types of texts (eg: storybooks, poems)
ELACCKRL1(ask & answer questions about text) With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
ELACCKRL4(ask & answer questions about unknown words in text) Ask and answer questions about unknown words in a text.
ELACCKW3 Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single event or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order in which they occurred, and provide a reaction to what happened.
ELACCKW5 With guidance and support from adults, respond to questions and suggestions from peers and add details to strengthen writing as needed
ELACCKW6 With guidance and support from adults, explore a variety of digital tools to produce and publish writing, including in collaboration with peers
ELACCKW8 With guidance and support from adults, recall info from experiences or gather info from provided sources to answer a question
EQ: What are different types of texts we read? What questions can I ask myself while reading to understand the text? How can I find the meaning of an unknown word in a text? What is your name? What are the letters in your name? How do I write?
Science:
We are starting our last PBL on Plants.
ELAGSEKRI7: With prompting and support, describe the relationship between illustrations and the text (how the illustrations support the text)
ELAGSEKW2: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.
SKL1. Students will sort living organisms and non-living materials into groups by observable physical attributes
SKL2. Students will compare the similarities and differences in groups of organisms.
EQ: How should scientists classify a new plant?
Math:
We are starting our final unit, Addition & Subtraction. The first five weeks will be spent on Addition. The last five weeks will be spent on Subtraction.
MCCK.OA.1 Represent addition and subtraction with objects, fingers, mental images,
drawings, sounds (e.g., claps), acting out situations, verbal explanations, expressions, or
equations.
MCCK.OA.2 Solve addition and subtraction word problems, and add and subtract within
10, e.g., by using objects or drawings to represent the problem.
MCCK.OA.3 Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one
way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or
equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
MCCK.OA.4 For any number from 1 to 9, find the number that makes 10 when added to
the given number, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record the answer with a
drawing or equation.
MCCK.OA.5 Fluently add and subtract within 5.
E.Q. How can I add groups/numbers together using object, my fingers, or drawings? How can I describe how I added the groups together?
